Corsair Vengeance LPX | A Budget-Friendly Ram to Pair with Powerful AMD CPUs
- 32 GB (2X16GB) DDR4 DIMMs
- 3200 MHz Clockspeed
- Supports Intel XMP 2.0
- Aluminum Heat Spreader
It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the Corsair Vengeance LPX has been the grace of most gaming PCs since last year. One main reason is that it is a low profile memory stick (34mm height), it doesn’t take much space like other premium ram modules. Another main reason to go for Vengeance LPX is the higher clock speed and affordable price tag.
As we’ve said earlier, for a powerful CPU like AMD Threadripper 3960X, you need to have a ram that has a higher clock speed for maximum performance. You can easily overclock this ram module as it is XMP 2.0 ready.
We found Vengeance LPX highly compatible with DDR 4 motherboard from AMD. Each DIMM comes with 16GB DDR4 memory with Hand-sorted memory chips that offer ideal performance in overclocking. Whereas the aluminum heat spreader on the top is ideal for heat dissipation on higher clock speeds.
Its low-profile design makes it an appealing choice for small PC cases. If you are installing this ram along with a Threadripper processor, you will get plenty of room for installing a third-party liquid or air cooler as well.
Although you won’t find any fancy RGBs on these DIMMs, still the Vengeance LPX is available in different colors to match your current rig.
An ideal ram module to pair with next-gen CPUs from AMD if you are low on budget and space.
Patriot Viper 4 Blackout Series | Ideal Ram for Ryzen 3000 CPUs

The Patriot Viper 4 Blackout Series is not too good in performance when compared to other ram modules on our list, still, we found it ideal for Ryzen 3000 processors. Apart from its dark aesthetics, it delivers ideal performance with powerful CPUs from the Threadripper series.
The kit comes with DIMMs, each clocked at 3200 MHz. Of course, you can easily overclock the speed with XMP 2.0. You can also manually overclock your ram by following the right guidelines.
The DIMMs are accompanied by a heat spreader at the top to take out excess heat. However, the quality of the heat spreader in Viper 4 Blackout isn’t something that we are a fan of. Yes, you might say that the heat spreader is of mediocre quality.
We installed this ram on an AMD supported motherboard along with 3rd generation Threadripper CPU. The system was stable all the way around even when we overclocked the ram manually at 1.5V. No error or BSODs appeared while playing games and editing videos at 4K quality.
How to Pick the Right Ram Module for Threadripper CPUs | Factors to Know
There are certain factors that you should keep in mind before purchasing any ram module for third generation threadripper CPUs like 3960X
Clockspeed & CAS Latency
This is the most crucial factor to look at when picking the memory modules for high-end CPUs. For a threadripper processor that has more cores and threads, it is important to look for ram with a clockspeed of 3200 MHz or higher.
Also, keep in mind the CAS Latency ratings, DIMM with a lower CAS Latency performs better than the DIMM with higher CAS Latency.
Compatibility with Motherboard
Not every memory module is supported by a motherboard. Some motherboards do no support DIMMs with higher clock speed. So it is important to look at your motherboard’s manual to know which clockspeeds are supported.
Obviously, a motherboard that is capable of running a powerful CPU like AMD Threadripper 3960X will support higher clock speed ram modules, some older motherboards also support third-gen AMD CPUs but not highly clocked ram sticks.
Better Heat Spreader
Ram with higher clock speeds and overclocking capability tend to produce more heat. So always go for a ram module that has a good-quality heat spreader. Premium quality ram modules come with a heat spreader made up of aluminum for efficient heat dissipation.
If you are going for premium ram modules, you can skip this feature. It is because hihg-end DIMMs have enough clockspeed to keep up with the peformance of your CPU. But if you are considering a ram stick with lower clockspeed, make sure it is easily overclockable for better performance if you need it.
Our recommendation would be to go for Crucial Ballistix RGB as it offers the best value and features. For a Threadripper 3960X, Crucial Ballistix RGB ram modules are ideal by all means. It offers better overclocking, comes with a better heatsink, has a rich RGB scheme, and finally comes on a cutting edge price.
And if you are a tech-savvy person, there is no better choice than the Vengeance LPX. This is a highly compatible ram with Ryzen Threadripper 3960X. It’s low profile and has the same clock speed as most other ram modules on our list. The only thing it doesn’t have is the fancy RGB lights. Well, the performance has nothing to do with the RGBs.
